- Spawns on a 90 minute timer.
- 3 phases: First phase has a 30 minute timer, third phase has a 20 minute timer.
- 2 and a half minute 'break' between Phase 1 and Phase 2 to haul ass to the Ruins of the Mirror of Lyss PoI.
PRELIMINARY INFORMATION Serpent's Ire is a large scale map meta event in Vabbi that requires a high degree of coordination. The most central waypoint to this event is the [Market Ruins Waypoint] and in general, any location you need to go is most directly reached from there. The general outline is that 5 champions in the Brand must be killed within a 30 minute window, to trigger a event in the Grand Court of Sebelkeh. First, however, the Brand must be explained. While in the Brand, players are constantly struck by lightning which deals damage in ~3-4 second intervals. This can be avoided in two main ways: A: Being on a Skimmer or in the air (you must be grounded to get struck by lightning.) Out of combat, the lightning strikes just infrequently enough for you to mount up in between damage ticks. B: Being 'under cover', which can be either underneath a roof of some sort, or in a protective Djinn bubble, which are located at several locations in the map. The 'roof' mechanic is a little bit odd, and you can often cheese it by just jamming yourself in a corner. It should be noted that if lightning strikes a Downed player, they are instantly defeated. When in combat, be aware of your positioning and try to be near or under cover at all times. In addition to this, I'd recommend having a ranged weapon on hand for the first phase of this event.
PHASE 1 - "Lure out the Branded Forgotten Zealots" This phase has a 30 minute timer, and while that seems generous, it really isn't. The goal of the event is to kill Veteran Branded (and higher) in the Branded half of Vabbi to fill up a progress bar. Every 20% of that bar filled spawns a Champion Forgotten Zealot. The bar must be filled to 100%, and all 5 Champions must be killed within the time limit, to trigger the next phase. The Champs themselves, once discovered, appear to be quite similar to the Bounty champions in that they have Ley Magic abilities (spiny laser death wheels, debuffs that you need to run to the shiny orbs to get rid of, etc. For a more comprehensive list, see our handy Bounty Breakdown! )
These Champs can spawn across a vast section of the Brand, and can appear at multiple spawn locations. During this phase, while people are killing Veteran Branded, make it clear that people SHOULD CALL OUT IN MAP CHAT if they see a Forgotten Zealot, referencing directions from the closest point of interest, or from [Market Ruins Waypoint]. Once engaged, the Zealot will appear on the world map as a boss event, and will run away in (I believe) 8 minutes if not defeated. If a Zealot gets away, they will respawn at another location a little later on, but as the entire event chain is on a timer it is preferable to not let that happen. The locations that the Zealots spawn is random, but from what I've experienced, they will generally spawn close to one of the Djinn bubbles. The Djinn will move the bubble closer to the Forgotten Zealot once the snek is engaged, which is helpful. The Djinn will also move the bubble further away from the Zealot if it comes too close, which is less helpful. As you will be defeated instantly if downed outside the bubble, it's best to position yourself so you can retreat there if need be.
The general flow of this phase is, spread your squad (or just whoever you can rope into it in map chat) out across the Brand, and have people check the Djinn bubbles around them for a Zealot. Once a champ is called out, the zerg can go rush it down. If multiple zealots are found at once, then people can split between them.
If you're scouting for the Zealot; the following maps are a rough guide to where all the Djinn bubbles are (Red circles.) The blue circles around the Grand Court of Sebelkeh are where the Zealots regroup for Phase 2 of the meta.
PHASE 2 - GRAND COURT OF SEBELKEH After all 5 Zealots are killed, there will be a short 2 and a half minute gap where "the Zealots are regrouping at the Grand Court of Sebelkeh". During this time, it's IMPERATIVE that the map is organized into 5 roughly equal groups and get to Sebelkeh. Once the timer runs out, the Forgotten Zealots will begin channeling a massive attack around the Ruins of the Mirror of Lyss PoI. The 5 groups should each take 1 of the champions (Positioned at NW, N, NE, SE, SW: Blue circles in the picture of the Northern Brand) around the lake. Each champion has a breakbar, and 5 stacks of a unique protection buff that negates damage. When a snake's breakbar is broken, all snakes lose 1 stack of protection, allowing them to take damage. CC is very necessary for this part of the event chain; engaging with Springer can be a good idea if you're on a class without much CC. Soft CCs like cripple, blind, chill and slow are also worthwhile in this part. IF THE ATTACK IS ALLOWED TO COMPLETE, THE META FAILS AND YOU ALL DIE. It is a race against time to kill all 5 snakes.
I've seen a few ways to accomplish this part of the event: the one that requires less coordination is 5 equal groups, just breaking the bar with CC as soon as it comes up and dealing what damage they can. Once a snake is down, the ritual will go slower, and all other zealots will have 1 less stack of protection, so the successful group can split up and help the other teams.
The one that requires more coordination but could potentially be faster, is sending a specialized team to 4 out of 5 of the snakes, and having them all break the bars at the same time. The zerg remains at the 5th snake, who will then get melted due to having no protection. From there the zerg just moves around the lake and takes all the snakes out. Should only be attempted if the squad knows exactly what they're doing.
PROTIPS FOR COMMANDERS: Phase 2 is where most runs of this meta will fail, either due to people not knowing what zealot to be on, not bringing enough CC, or just generally being incompetent. ONLY YOU CAN MAXIMIZE YOUR CHANCES OF GETTING THIS DONE. Make sure to split people up into subgroups WELL IN ADVANCE, as the 2 1/2 minute break between phases is NOT ENOUGH TO COORDINATE THIS.
A couple of tips: MARK EACH ZEALOT SPAWN WITH SQUAD MARKERS, either before the meta begins or while Phase 1 is happening. It can also help to assign each marker to a subsquad leader; basically someone who you trust enough to scream blue murder if they don't have enough people from their sub at their snake.
ANNOUNCE WHICH SUBGROUP GOES TO WHICH ZEALOT IN SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENTS. Something along the lines of:
SUB 1 - ARROW - SW
SUB 2 - CIRCLE - SE
SUB 3 - HEART - NE
SUB 4 - SQUARE - N
SUB 5 - STAR - NW
CHECK WHAT SUBSQUAD YOU ARE IN AND GO THERE! Bring as much CC as you can! Springers OP!
You might think it's hopeless if the first snake only goes down at around the half-way mark. DON'T GIVE UP: if a snake is CCed, it stops contributing to the bar timing out. Death is also the hardest CC in the game: the more snakes you kill, the slower it goes and the more damage the remaining snakes take. If one sub manages to get their snake down and split up between the other subs, you're in it with a really good chance.
PHASE 3 - LEGENDARY FORGOTTEN + HYDRA PET Once all 5 zealots are down, a Legendary Branded Forgotten and his Branded Hydra pet will spawn in the centre of the Mirror of Lyss. This boss has a 20 minute timer, and compared to the other phases, is relatively straightforward. The Branded Hydra is similar to the Legendary Branded Hydra bounty, with crystal meteors and branded fire breath: he does a lot of damage and can wipe an unprepared team. If possible, splitting him and the Forgotten up is wise, as together they can be quite hard to deal with due to all the CC they put out. The Forgotten will spawn crystals that spit out bullets (ala Nightmare Fractal), which should be taken care of to avoid group wipes.
If the Hydra dies, the Forgotten will ressurect him at 50% health, so the Forgotten should always be focused on first. The Forgotten switches between 'stances' that block all melee attacks, and block all ranged attacks, so people should bring both options if possible. At certain points in the fight, (<25% health remaining) he will go Invulnerable, and spawn Branded Sparks at the far end of the mirror of Lyss. These need to be killed, because if he absorbs them, he gets a 2% damage boost, which can quickly become unsustainable. I believe a certain amount of these Sparks need to be killed before his Invulnerability will drop and he can be damaged again. And that's about it! Once these two bosses are killed, grats! Serpent's Ire is over! Enjoy your Funerary Gloves and mediocre loot!
